HANS CHRISTIAN ANDERSEN

Today, we celebrate Hans Christian Andersen's birth anniversary. Hans Christian Andersen (April 2, 1805 – August 4, 1875) was a Danish author and poet noted for his children's stories. These include "The Steadfast Tin Soldier", "The Snow Queen", "The Little Mermaid", "Thumbelina", "The Little Match Girl", and "The Ugly Duckling".

His poetry and stories have been translated into more than 150 languages. They have inspired motion pictures, plays, ballets, and animated films.

Since 1967, on Hans Christian Andersen's birthday, 2 April, International Children's Book Day (ICBD) is celebrated to inspire the love of reading among children and to call attention to children's books.

Each year a different National Section of IBBY has the opportunity to be the international sponsor of ICBD.

The 2010 international sponsor of ICBD is Spain. The theme is "Un libro te espera, búscalo! A book is waiting for you, find it!" .

BRITISH EASTER TRADITIONS

Easter is a very important festival to British people. They have special traditions that we don't have in Spain. Children decorate their own Easter eggs, and Easter Bunny visits to them and hides chocolate eggs in the garden, they name this tradition "Easter egg hunt". Both things are very funny.
